World Space Week Association announces the theme and Honorary Chair for World Space Week 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Houston, Texas (November 4, 2024)

World Space Week Association announces the theme for World Space Week 2025 will be “Living in Space”. This theme emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices in space exploration and habitation. The annual event will take place October 4–10, 2025.

Robert Lightfoot, President of Lockheed Martin Space, will serve as the Honorary Chair for the upcoming year’s event. Lightfoot spent 29 years at NASA and has served in leadership roles across the aerospace and defense industry. His extensive experience will lend to important conversations about living in space.

“As we advance our capabilities and exploratory activities in space, we have a responsibility to develop technologies which are sustainable for both space and Earth,” Lightfoot said. “At Lockheed Martin Space, we’re bringing this to life by developing and testing technologies like inflatable habitats to sustainably expand space exploration.”

Alma Okpalefe, Executive Director of WSWA, added, “The theme ‘Living in Space’ encourages us to consider how we can not only explore but also sustain life in these environments. It’s a call to action for innovation and collaboration across the globe.”

The focus on “Living in Space” invites everyone to explore habitat design, resource utilization, and how space technologies can enhance life on Earth. This theme encourages collaboration and innovation within the space community.

World Space Week and Lockheed Martin invite organizations worldwide to participate in various space activities that align with this theme October 4–10, 2025. For further details and updates, please visit www.worldspaceweek.org.
