| Event Description: | The lecture introduces the audience to one of the most exciting questions of modern science – are we alone in the cosmos? It explains what astrobiology studies and how it combines biology, chemistry, physics, and astronomy to answer that question. A special part is dedicated to the conditions necessary for the origin and survival of life, such as water, energy, and chemical building blocks. The audience will learn where in the Solar System there are "promising places" for life – Mars, the icy moons Europa and Enceladus, as well as Titan. It will be shown how scientists use telescopes and space probes to search for biosignatures and Earth-like planets. The lecture also touches on the limits of life on our planet – extremophiles that live in hot springs, deep oceans, or frozen deserts, as models for life in space. The possibility of communication with extraterrestrial civilizations and projects like SETI will also be discussed. The importance of space exploration for understanding the origin and future of life on Earth is emphasized. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas about how the discovery of life beyond Earth could change our perception of the world. The lecture concludes with an inspiring message about human curiosity and the need to explore the outer frontiers of the cosmos. |
