How to participate in World Space Week?
Imagine a whole week where space is celebrated all around the world! As the largest space event on Earth, World Space Week is an excellent opportunity to come-together and help collectively inspire and stimulate interests in space, STEM sciences and education. You can leverage World Space Week to:
-
- Help raise the profile of space-related organizations and activities across your country
- Provide community outreach and education
- Have fun, educate and inspire your audience about space!
Participating is easier than you may think! Here is how you can be a part of World Space Week:
1. Mark your Calendar
From 4 to 10 of October EVERY YEAR!
2. Choose an Activity
You determine what you want to do. Any activity related to space will do, from a short classroom drawing activity for a handful of toddlers to a stadium-size all-week lecture program. A space movie marathon to stargazing. Events can be for any audience, such as the public, employees, government leaders, the media, teachers or students. Need ideas? Contact your National Coordinator, or use our out of this world event ideas here!
3. Plan Your Activity/Event
-Schedule space-related activities for the 4-10 October timeframe.
-Use the World Space Week name and logo in your publicity materials.
-Download and print WSW poster to display at your event. You can event customize it!
-Share the details of your event, or bring attention to the importance of space in fighting climate change online with our Social Media Kit!
4. Register your event and make it official!
To make it an official World Space Week event it is important to add your event to our global calendar. After adding it to our database, it’s time to let the world know about your event! Share it on social media, and don’t forget to use #WSW2024! If you have a page on your website for your event, please add a link to www.worldspaceweek.org and make sure to use WSW logo! You can also download WSW logo of your country here. Include this website address in our event database, so we can help you promote through our website and social media channels. Every year we produce a space art poster around our theme. You can request a copy of this poster from your National Coordinator and display it at the event site. You can also customize it for your own event. If you appear on radio or TV please send us a link via hello@worldspaceweek.org. We would love to share it on our social media, and have it in our WSW photo album of the year!
In case you want to make changes to an event that you already registered, please find the instructions here.
5. Event criteria:
- Event begins and/or ends in first half of October (timeframe Oct 1 to Oct 15 can be accepted)
- Space related
- No duplicates (registering the same event multiple times on calendar)
- All activity in one facility (such as at one school, or at one conference) is in one event, not many
A nation may apply for WSWA approval of celebration of WSW on different days if there is a nationwide conflict in date. Example was when Ramadan fell during WSW. Board of Directors approval of such applications is required.
Events which are out of criteria will be deleted from calendar.
Guidelines on WSWA Events policy are here.
6. Report your event
After World Space Week, please return to the calendar to report results, including attendance and media coverage by editing your event. We encourage you to email us your pictures, videos, online links and other reports via contact@worldspaceweek.org. We use this information to report back to the United Nations through our annual report. The best pictures may be used in the UN meeting room! Thank you for participating in the largest space event in the world!
