COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Feb. 28, 2023 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit
organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global
space ecosystem, today announced that it has been selected by the World Space WeekAssociation as the World Space Week national coordinator for the United States.
In 1999, the U.N. General Assembly declared Oct. 4-10 as World Space Week. Since then, it has
grown to be the largest space event on Earth, according to the Association. Events are held by
space agencies, the industry, the U.N., schools, and thousands of organizations that week each
year. Preliminary results of World Space Week 2022 show a record-breaking number of over
10,000 reported events in 88 countries.
“Space Foundation is incredibly honored and excited to team up with the World Space Week
Association as the national coordinator for the United States,” said Space Foundation Chief
Operation Officer Shelli Brunswick. “Every year, World Space Week provides an incredible
opportunity to share space-related innovations and opportunities that are available to everyone,
and the benefits space brings to life on Earth. Sharing those stories and building those
relationships is part of Space Foundation’s mission, and we look forward to working with
industry, education and government partners to make World Space Week 2023 the best ever.”
“We are very excited about working closely with Space Foundation to make World Space Week
in the United States an even greater success. We have been partners for several years, and our
belief is that with them accepting the role of U.S. national coordinator, our collaboration will
become even stronger,” said World Space Week Association Director Maruska Strah. “This
year’s theme is Space and Entrepreneurship, and we are convinced that the work Space
Foundation is doing within its Space Commerce Institute will be a great inspiration for World
Space Week 2023 participants.”
