Report on the Results:  World Humming Day Festival 2023 On 10 October 2023, the World Humming Day Festival was held by Humming for Peace (led by Yukie Kakubari), connecting people around the globe beyond language barriers and calling for peace by humming together. The theme of the event is "Our Earth from space has no borders" and the event was held as a UN World Space Week event as a peace activity using radio waves connecting either in person or online. During Space Week, which celebrates the anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, Humming for PEACE will use the technology of satellites to connect the Earth for the sake of world peace. This year's event was held in a hybrid format of real venues and online, with the combined participants of more than 1000 people from 33 countries and regions, successfully united through non-verbal communication by humming together for peace. The center stage, from which the event was broadcasted live around the world, was set in the main hall of Higashihiroshima Arts Center Kurara located in Hiroshima Prefecture, a symbolic place of peace, which was also selected as venue by the G7. From the main Hiroshima venue, Yukie Kakubari, the main singer, opened the event by humming solo and subsequently invited humming singers gathered from all over the country and distinguished speakers on stage, including a former United Nations employee. Ayumi Ueda, a cappella world champion and the leader of Woman Of The World, also joined the event as a special guest singer visiting Japan from Hawaii. The event was connected simultaneously with three satellite venues (Tokyo, Miyagi, Iwate) during the event. From the Miyagi venue, a live painting session was broadcasted live, where an artist and children painted pictures of peace on the wall of the Shimomashida Children's Center before its demolition, while listening to the world's simultaneous humming. Humming has no lyrics, but combined with smiles, gestures, and tone of voice, it is a tool to connect people from the heart. In addition, humming is said to improve both mental and physical health. When humming, people close their mouths, which naturally leads to nasal and abdominal breathing, which improves lung function and is said to be highly effective for health and relaxation. The event is scheduled to be held annually on 10th of October, hoping one day World Humming Day becomes an internationally recognized international Memorial Day, the day when people celebrate our life and planet by humming together worldwide at the same time.
