| Event Name: | The new generation of satellites and observing the night sky |
| Event Description: | The SIRIUS Astronomical Association held an educational and informational event entitled "The New Generation of Satellites and Observing the Night Sky", an event that joins the thousands of synchronized space events attracting greater public and media attention. Highlighted were: the changing of the night sky with the astonishing growth of commercial satellites, exemplified by the "Bluewalker 3" satellite, one of the brightest objects in the night sky, rivaling the brightest stars; the intention of launching in the near future many bright satellites in low Earth orbit (Amazon with the Kuiper project, SpaceX with the fleet of Starlink satellites in a network of 72 orbits; AST SpaceMobile with the construction of a constellation of satellites); the desire of astronomers to achieve a collaborative relationship with the growing number of satellite companies to manage their effects; creating a database of satellites and their predicted movements for planning observations around satellites in orbit; the threat that cellular transmissions from the Bluewalker satellites could disrupt radio astronomy observations. The event was held (2 hours) with the physical participation of students who systematically study astronomy and space sciences within the SIRIUS Astronomical Association. |
