Peter Kirk 5th grade students in Ms. Ishii's class began the week reading about Galileo the Hubble telescope, and other types of telescopes. Each student put together a small refracting telescope from a kit and went outside to view the planet photos that were placed on the fence. On the evening of October 8, about 20 students and parents showed up for a Star party held on the school grounds hosted by Project ASTRO-Bio amateur astronomer, Doug Prichard and Ms. Ishii. It started out cloudy, but we caught a break and were able to view our own gibbous moon Jupiter and its moons, and the Orion nebula. The lunar plant chamber activity for the space flown basil seeds was postponed until spring of 2009.
