Event Name:  Space Fun- 2010 World Space Week
Event Description:  Monday-Friday: Sun Observation in amphitheater- 40 min. per group from 1st-6th grades. 9am-2pm Tuesday: TELESCOPE NIGHT 7:30-10:00pm NO COST. All the school community is invited. Activities in classrooms 1st-3rd: Solar system diagrams,space stories, moon phases, My planet, Exo-pet. Activities in Science lab and other subjects: 4th grade- make and launch paper rockets 5th grade- make and launch plastic bottle rockets, sun information, solar system mobile. 6th grade- hover craft, math problem solving. 8th grade- solar system, missions, paper rockets.

Report on the Results:  Around 550 people observed the sun. Most comments were positive. Approximately 150 people came to Telescope Night. 15 people from Sociedad Astronòmica de la Laguna guided the observations with 10 telescopes and showed constellations. We mainly observed Jupiter and 3 of its moons. Everyone enjoyed the evening. Lower elementary children did very creative work. 4th and 5th graders were excited about their rockets. Launches were successful. They used their scientific skills and followed the scientific method. 6th graders had a great time riding the hover craft. Their observations, analysis and ideas for modifications were interesting. 8th graders also had a good time on their straw-launched-paper rocket contest.
