| Event Name: | Space Satellite Systems for Humankind |
| Event Description: | Astronomical Centre Rijeka will hold events and special evening programs during the period of 4-10 October and it will join & promote the World Space Week 2012. For wide public there will be presented the new extraordinary planetarium live show "Space Satellite Systems for Humankind" (4-6 October at 7,30 pm.), dadicated to the the World Space Week 2012. Theme: Space for Human Safety and Security. During the planetarium show, the difference between natural and artificial satellites the first satellite sent to Space, the uses, the developments and the orbits of artificial satellites will be presented to the large public, Astronomical Centre Rijeka and Crometeo, Croatian organization for meteorology, will have presentation of "Uses of artificial satellites for meteorological analysis and forecast " (5th October, 8,30 pm.). This presentation will be open to everybody who is interested to know more about how the use of satellites improved the quality of life by using data and derive improved forecasts for short-term routine weather forecast, long-term climate change, and for prediction of natural disasters. Also, in collaboration with the local school "Turnić" the workshop „Apollo escape mission“ will be organised. The internet and library research on Apollo Lunar landing missions will be available to the student groups to immagine their rescue mission and to create a poster that describes the crew, objectives and significance of their mission. The regular program of the Astronomical Centre Rijeka is held from Tuesday to Saturday (on Saturday 8th October, the Center will be closed for national holiday) at 7.30 pm. with the planetarium film "Touching the Edge of the Universe" and the live show "A Guide to the Night Sky – Autumn" (Fridays at 9 pm.). The Morning shows will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday (11 am.) and the program will feature live planetarium shows for the kindergarten, elementary and high school kids. |
