| Event Description: | The planetarium show tells the story of searching the distance to the stars and of the understanding of the universe. With the Gaia space mission we face a quantum leap in mapping the universe. This spacecraft made of most advanced materials will measure the distance to one percent of all stars in our Milky Way in 3D - at least a billion stars. It obtains a fabulous accuracy: Gaia can measure from a meter, how much a human hair has grown within a hundredth of a second. With these measurements we will not just better understand the stars, but also discover countless planets, asteroids – and maybe even the distribution of dark matter.The planetarium show tells the story of searching the distance to the stars and of the understanding of the universe. The 45-minutes 360° fulldome programme in 4K resolution was produced in cooperation with the European Space Agency and planetariums all across Europe. It aims at triggering the interest in science and in adventure, and will take the audience onto a terrific journey through the Milky Way. It combines learning and experience and opens new horizons - geographically and culturally. BILLION SUNS is an exciting story with awesome images and great educational potential. |
