Event Name: | Talk: UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKRoC) By John Jacomb |
Event Description: | Speaker: John Jacomb Date: Saturday 10th October 2020 Start Time: 14:00 End Time: 15:15 Venue: Via Zoom Register here: https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSdtNJf2NIQthS.../viewform John Jacomb will be the speaker to discuss the UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKRoC) for the West Midlands Branch of the British Interplanetary Society virtual event which is taking place on Saturday 10 October 2020. What is the Youth Rocketry Challenge? The challenge is aimed at students aged 11 – 18 from any secondary schools, colleges, educational facilities or youth groups to design, build and launch a model rocket with a fragile payload. The rocket must reach a set altitude with specific total flight duration, constructing a model rocket to conform with specifications set out in the Rules. In 2020 over 110 teams registered for the competition from across the UK. Designed to encourage teamwork, creativity and innovation, UKRoC enables young people to gain practical insight into how science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects are used by the aerospace, defence and space industries. JOHN JOCOMB Built and launched his first rocket over 30 years ago, member of the GB Space Modelling Team since 2005 as a competitor and in 2018, Team Manager. Awarded the inaugural BMFA Medal in 2016/17 and in 2018 the Frank Ehling Diploma for the promotion of aviation through the use of flying models. A STEM Ambassador he also runs a monthly flight club for youngsters at Stow Maries WW1 aerodrome. Western Front Association member and a keen angler.
