Event Description: | Colóquio do NAT: "A new look at the Green Valley and other musings" Palestrante: Ignacio Ferreras, do IAC-University College London. Dia 05 de outubro, segunda-feira, às 14h. Colóquio sobre formação e evolução de galáxias. RESUMO: This seminar features a medley of results focused on two different aspects of galaxy formation and evolution, explored by two of my PhD students at UCL. The core of the talkfocuses on a new definition of the green valley that circunvents, potential systematics from dust attenuation. This new definition is straightforward to implement and produces substantial constraints on the subgrid phisics of hydrodynamical models. The observational constraints obtained from the analysis of SDSS spectra of green valley galaxies is contrasted with the EAGLE and Illustris-TNG simulations, with interesting results on the implementation of AGN feedback. The second parto of my talk focuses on the analysis of the effective dust attenuation law in star-forming galaxies at cosmic noom, where a remarkable correlation is found between the attenuation parameters that encode valuable information law impose a serious caveat on most analyses that rely on dust corrections in galaxies. The resultes are contrasted numerical simulations as well as with a simple phenomenological prescription motivated by the birth cloud model.
