Event Name:  MOON TALKS: A 2021 Space Week Event
Event Description:  The moon is the brightest and largest object in our night sky and makes Earth a more liveable planet by moderating our home planet's wobble on its axis, leading to a relatively stable climate. It also causes tides, creating a rhythm that has guided humans for thousands of years. Throughout history civilisations have imbued meaning to the moon and given it a face. Today designers, artists, scientists and great thinkers are still working on or with the moon in their research. And this space week event seeks to explore the moon and where we are today. We are bringing together speakers who will inspire and thrill, covering topics from moon colonisation, can we grow food on the moon, strategies for coping with social isolation, analysing moon rock and what we have discovered as well as robots on the moon. Speakers include Dr Nelly Ben Hayoun- Stepanian, Designer of Experiences, Dr James Darling, Reader in Earth and Planetary Materials at the University of Portsmouth and Professor Marinna Obrist Professor of Multisensory Interfaces at UCL and Kateryna Sopelnyk, Partnerships Coordinator at SpaceBits. Joining instructions will be in your confirmation email and in the reminder sent near the time of the event. Please check your inbox to obtain the link and keep the joining instructions safely. This event will be held via Zoom. If you have any questions about the event, please do not hesitate to contact us at chloe.mcclellan@port.ac.uk. --------- World Space Week is an annual holiday observed from October 4 to 10 in over 95 nations throughout the world.
