| Event Name: | WE AND COSMOS, Celebrating women in space |
| Event Description: | We have organized a physical event for children. They will participate in debate, speech, art and music program. The event starts from 10 AM (GMT+5:45) on 6th October. Children are also preparing a small video role playing the first few astronaut to land on surface of Mars. There are guests speakers coming from universities to encourage children. |

| Report on the Results: | The event was successful. Due to pandemic we limited our physical event to children who participated in debate, speech and musical performance. Teachers were also invited and attendance was about 55. Prof. Dr. Deepak Prasad Subedi, from Kathmandu University was invited as chief guest and Mr. Suresh Bhattarai, Chairman of Nepal Astronomical Society was invited as special guest. Art work prepared by children of grade V-VIII were displayed on the board near the entrance of our auditorium where we had rest of the events planned to take place. The Martian habitat was build in a field beside our basketball court. Children came up with this idea and they even shot their video in the same location. We started with the welcome speech by me (Sailesh Acharya). Then we presented the video prepared by our children which was a portrayal of three astronauts who landed on Mars. The Chief guest, explained why space week is celebrated and also presented his research work. We had three teams for Speech with presentation segment. They were assigned three different timeline in our history (before 1800s, 1800-1950 and 1950 onward). Each team prepared a list of female who worked in the field of STEM and also explained their contributions. Music team presented two songs. It was fun. Topic for our debate segment was 'Should we go to Mars?'. Four children presented against the motion and three children presented in favor of it. Then our special guest Mr. Suresh Bhattarai explained why we need to go to Mars and also talked about asteroid search campaigns and Astronomy Olympiad. We concluded our event with thank you speech by Deepali Giri, our Academic coordinator. Reporter from two national newspaper were present during the event. The videos and photographs of the event was posted in the facebook page of our school. It was also shared by Nepal Astronomical society in their facebook page. |
