Space the final frontier
Talking to my 4 years old kids about the World Space Week it was easy to see that they had some knowledge about space and their interest on this subject was great. So it wasn’t difficult to start a very interesting teaching activity.
First of all we determined what outer space meant and how can man reached it. We had the conversation based on the pictures from a children encyclopedia. Then we built a space ship with wood blocks and Lego.
In the second activity I was helped by the shuttle Columbia mock with its trailer and a lot of scientific pictures from outer space. We traveled by Columbia from planet to planet. They were very impressed seeing the soles of Neil Armstrong's boots on the moon, on July 20, 1969, when Apollo 11 astronaut became the first man to step foot on the moon.
I was very pleased hearing the next day from their parents that the conversations continued at home and one of them even dreamt that he would become an astronaut.
