| Event Name: | Round Table - From University to Space: Science and Technology in Space Exploration |
| Event Description: | From University to Space: Science and Technology in Space Exploration The session, which aims to bring together different specialists and players in areas related to space exploration, will start at 3:30pm, at the amphitheater 23.1.5 of the Pedagogical, Scientific and Technological Complex of the University of Aveiro. The event will begin with a speech by Artur Silva, UAveiro's vice-rector for research. This will be followed by the round table discussion "From University to Space: Science and Technology in Space Exploration", which will be attended by geophysicist Rui Moura, the NASA veteran astronaut John Danny Olivas, professors and researchers Ana Cristina Pires de Oliveira and Slavka Carvalho Andrejkovicová and a representative of ANACOM, Sandro Mendonça as the Portuguese Space Authority. This brings together a veteran astronaut with two trips on the Space Shuttle, John Danny Olivas, with the two Portuguese former UAveiro students who trained as suborbital astronauts/tripulants in the USA, Ana Pires and Rui Moura. Currently they work respectively at INESCTEC Porto and at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and maintain activity and research related to space exploration, as does Slavka Carvalho, Senior Researcher at the GeoBioTec research unit of the University of Aveiro, who is also a Special External Scientist at the Goddard Space Flight Center of NASA (USA). This round table will be moderated by Prof Nuno Borges de Carvalho, director of the Aerospace Engineering Degree and also director of the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro. Following the round table, at 4:45pm, there will be an inaugural visit to the exhibition "Fragments in Space", based on Rui Moura's collection, which will be presented by Rui Moura himself and attended by the guests at the round table. Participation in these activities is free and requires no prior registration ________________ Portuguese Version___________________ A sessão que pretende reunir diferentes especialistas e intervenientes em áreas relacionadas com a exploração espacial terá início pelas 15h30, no anfiteatro 23.1.5. no Complexo Pedagógico Científico e Tecnológico da Universidade de Aveiro, com a intervenção inicial do Senhor Reitor, Prof Doutor Paulo Jorge Ferreira. Segue-se a mesa redonda “From University to Space: Science and Technology in Space Exploration” em que está confirmada a presença do geofísico Rui Moura, do astronauta veterano da NASA John Danny Olivas, das docentes e investigadoras Ana Pires e Slavka Carvalho Andrejkovicová e Sandro Mendonça, representante da ANACOM, enquanto Autoridade Espacial Portuguesa Reune-se assim um astronauta veterano com duas viagens no Vaivém espacial, John Danny Olivas, aos dois portugueses, antigos alunos da UA, que realizaram treino para astronauta/tripulante suborbital nos EUA, Ana Pires e Rui Moura. Atualmente Ana Pires desenvolve trabalho no Centro de Robótica e Sistemas Autónomos do INESC TEC e é cientista-Astronauta IIAS. Rui Moura é docente na Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, é investigador do INESCTEC - CRAS e também vice-diretor do Instituto Geofísico da Universidade do Porto. Slavka Carvalho Investigadora Principal na unidade de investigação GeoBioTec da Universidade de Aveiro (UA) é também Cientista Externa Especial no Goddard Space Flight Center da NASA (EUA). Sandro Mendonça é Membro de Conselho de Administração da ANACOM e abordará os temas relacionados com a Autoridade Espacial Portuguesa. Esta mesa redonda será moderada por Nuno Borges de Carvalho, diretor da Licenciatura em Engenharia Aeroespacial e também diretor do Departamento de Eletrónica, Telecomunicações e Informática da Universidade de Aveiro. Na sequência dessa mesa redonda, pelas 16h45, segue-se a visita comentada à exposição “Fragmentos do Espaço”, criada com base no acervo de Rui Moura, curador da exposição com o designer Fernando Sousa. A visita será apresentada por Rui Moura e participada pelos convidados da mesa-redonda. A participação nestas atividades é livre e não exige inscrição prévia. |
