Event Description:  Join us at Fab Lab London 1800-2000 5th October to learn about a technology which is transforming space exploration. Hear from experts in 3D Printing, Satellite Engineering and Space Architecture. Learn about how Made in Space 3D print objects on the International Space Station. Deep Space Industries and Planetary Resources plan to use 3D printing in asteroid mining and processing. ESA and NASA are thinking how to 3D print human-rated bases on the Moon. Also experience a tour of the lab including 3D printers, 3D design, 3D scanners and Robotics. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, £5 entry with snacks provided. Limited earlybirds get to take home a 3D Print of an object printed in space.

Report on the Results:  “Imagine if space explorers could create habitats, structures and tools on the Moon, Mars or in deep space without the need for a complex and expensive supply chain. This is enabled by 3D printing” Event discussed 3D Printing in space - which organisations are using it, why it is useful, potential future applications and a demonstration of desktop 3D Printers and 3D Scanners. Topics included 3d printing tools/parts/structures in space, in recycling space debris into new satellites, asteroid mining, constructing habitats using lunar regolith and legal implications. Speakers: Space Architecture (Tomas Rousek), Satellite Engineering (Ian Stotesbury), 3D Printing (Jack Scott-Reeve). Skypes from NASA: Journey to Mars (Luke Roberson), Self-replicating Robotics (Scott Howe) Skypes from Deep Space Industries: 3D Printing applied to Asteroid Mining (Daniel Faber)
