| Event Name: | Astral symbols of prehistoric culture |
| Event Description: | Museum of Slavonia is the biggest complex museum in Croatia. "Prehistory" is one of three permanent exhibitions in the Museum. "Prehistory" exhibition is important due to introduction to different prehistoric cultures and communities, from which well known Vučedol culture. It occupied the right bank of the Danube in the easternmost part of Croatia between 2900 and 2500 BC. The most common ceramic form of Vučedol culture are biconical bowls made in more shapes than any other culture had managed to create before. The Vučedol ’s concept of the world was conveyed on their vessels – the oldest European ideograms. All decorations on them bear heavenly symbolism, and a ceramic vessel from Vinkovci, created in about 2600 BC, shows astral calendar of the Vučedol culture. In the opinion of Prof. A. Durman it depicts the earliest and the most complete Indo – European calendar. Astral symbols of the four season of the year are depicted in four decorative bands and can be considered the first European writing system of sorts. Due to astral symbolism found within Vučedol culture we decided to take part in “World Space Week 2016” and organize three-day- event taking part from October 4th to October 7th. Museum visitors will enjoy: creative workshops, lectures and night guided museum tours, stars observation with telescopes, exhibition of official poster for World Space Week 2016 designed by Mr. Filip Glogoški, a 17-year old artist from Croatia, and so much more. Entrance for all visitors will be free of charge. |
