Event Description:  The World Space Week at Penza Secondary School 56 DAY 1 “The World Space Week” started at school on the 3rd of October with the visiting of the Penza museum of entertaining science “Reactor”. This museum is interesting for children of all ages. Rare exhibits and professionalism of guides creates very special atmosphere. There are exhibits of ancient and modern science. Best of all the students liked the small copy of Tesla coil. Due to creating a high voltage by this coil it could be possible to demonstrate artificiallightning. But the most interesting fact was playing music by the lightning. It was unbelievable! Students of the school could spend their time with a lot of joy and fun. DAY 2 On the 4th of October the Grand Opening of “The World Space Week” took place. The program of the week was presented to the students of our school. DAY 3 Students of 7th and 8th grades tried to solve some scientific problems of “The Large Space Races”. It was a kind of a quiz. Before the start the physics teacher Elena Alexandrovna said: “The quiz is rather difficult. Тhe participants will have to demonstrate their knowledge of different subjects . All children are very curious and I’m sure they will get over with all the tasks”. DAY 4 On the 6th of October students of Year 5 and 6 had a special opportunity to take part in “The Large Space Races” quiz. It included 6 stations. Each station provided the participants with various space facts that were shown from the point of view of different scientific branches. The students joined the adventure at the Chemistry station. A lot of interesting chemical experiments astonished the children. The Biology station offered the answer to the meaningful question: “In what ways can plants be cultivated under space conditions?” The Geology station demonstrated how to identify mineral deposits other planets contain on the basis of their common properties. At the Literature station the students were able to test their knowledge with help of the novel Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury. What’s more, at the Music station they were pleased to listen to some songs about space. The Physics station was by all means the most interesting of all. The students discovered lots of new facts about the magnetic field and how it influences our planet. All the participants were greatly impressed by “The Space Races” They confessed it had deepened their knowledge and made them interested in different scientific areas. DAY 5 The World Space Week at school №56 is over. The school program was so intense that it had been discussed by children for the whole week. They were trying to repeat the wonderful experiments for their friends and relatives. To prove that all technologies are familiar to students of our school, they found out the connection of space knowledge with other spheres of science and arts: Literature, fine Arts, Astronomy, Geography, biology and, of course, Physics. Children were getting knowledge during “The large and small space races”. In “small races” students of Year 1-4 took part. For students of mid-level the main achievement was the opportunity to get closer to the stars and stellar knowledge. In addition, the students took part in the contest “Space with my own eyes”. DAY 6 On the 10th of October the closing ceremony and the presentation of awards took place at the assembly hall of the school. Both, children and teachers feel themselves back to the Earth after space travel. Despite the fact that the space journey came to the end, the school waited for the new heights and discoveries. We will tell about them very soon – during next Space Week at school 56.
