Event Description: | TIME: 11:00am ET AUDIENCE: Middle & High School Classrooms Currently everything we use in space is launched from earth. This session from NASA's Tracie Prater will provide an overview of the in-space manufacturing project. Learn how NASA and the space industry are developing technologies that will reduce launch mass by enabling production of spare parts in space. These technologies also provide an important safety enhancement for crew as they venture farther from earth than ever before. Topics covered include: 3D printing of plastics, recycling of plastics, large scale construction concepts for habitats on the planetary surface, and manufacturing capabilities that will be needed to support long duration spaceflight where cargo resupply is not readily available.
