| Event Name: | World Space Week 2010. |
| Event Description: | • The UN general assembly in 1999 declared 4th to 10th October as World Space Week. Institute of space technology is holding several events at its campus in Islamabad from 4th to 8th October 2010, with a primary goal to impart space awareness among the general public and young enthusiasts from all major schools and colleges of twin cities and surrounding areas were invited to take part take part in these events. • The world space week began with a two day lecture series entitled “Space technology awareness lectures”. The two day lecture series began on 4th of October. Space technology awareness lectures were held at Islamabad and Rawalpindi colleges and schools. • On 6th October a space walk at the Rawal Lake was arranged by the IST student affairs and students to further generate the interest of general public in space technology. • A two day Space Technology workshop was held in IST students of different schools and colleges of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in which students were told about the Aerospace technology and Satellite communication majorly in detail and different softwares and lab equipment used in this technology were demonstrated. • During the world space week celebrations on events included declamation contests to, space painting & Sketching making, Space models, Aeromodelling, water rocket, space quiz, All these events are held at the IST campus on 7th &8th of October. The events have been carefully designed to serve the purpose of educating the public in general and young students in particular about the space technology and its implications. • Moreover, a space family fair was arranged on the 7th and 8h of October 2010, food and drink stalls with special events of interest for children such as cartoon show, space theatre, kids arena and gaming zone were established. • In addition to the awareness lectures, an astronomy night was arranged for in IST on Friday 8th October for amateur astronomers to familiarize them with the modern equipment employed primarily for the purpose of exploring the universe. • Movie shows in space theatre, space gallery and a planetarium in collaboration with Pakistan science foundation was established to make this event a wonderful experience for people from all walks of life. |
