Event Description: | Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space was invited to hold its annual Keep Space for Peace conference in Nagpur India on October 9 to 12 during UN World Space Week. The annual student essay contest on Keeping Space for Peace would also be held then. The KS4P affiliate project in India, led by J. Narayano Rao, focuses year round on University students and additional visits to schools would follow immediately after the conference. |

Report on the Results: | After an initial favorable reception, the Ministry of External Affairs refused to grant visas for an international conference so a national conference October 9 and 10 was held instead. Vice Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat, former Naval chief of India, was keynote speaker and Bruce Gagnon, Coordinator of Global Network, joined in the many discussions. More than 225 delegates from Andhrapradesh,Madhypradesh.Chattisgarh,Maharashtra,Orissa and New Delhi participated, including many students. From October 11 to 15 follow-up meetings were held with hundreds of students and faculty in Bhopal, Agra, Jammu and Kashmir. A meeting was also held in Agra with Indian Doctors for Peace and Development and in Jammu with union leaders, government and military leaders, lawyers and scientists. The Times of India covered the cancellation of the international conference and Hindustan Times (Bhopal)carried an exclusive interview with Bruce Gagnon. |
