Event Description:  Living Maths, in association with the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) and the South Africa Astronomical Observatory (SAAO), present a wonderful Art Competition for learners from grades 1-12. In celebration of World Space Week (4-7 October 2011) and the fact that the 62nd IAC is taking place in Africa for the first time, this competition has been devised to give learners a chance to bring the South African Space industry into the public eye. The finalists will have their artwork displayed at Artscape for the week of the World Space Week, their work will also be displayed on the Internet and finally, the winners in the 3 categories (Junior (gr 1-3), Intermediate (gr 4-7) and Senior (gr 8-12)) will each receive goody bags filled with unique and rare items from NASA, prizes from Living Maths and a chance to meet a real Space personality.

Report on the Results:  The artwork was handed in and displayed on our wesbite as well as in a prominent Theatre venue in Cape Town. Our website had over 5000 visitors during the week of WSW so a large percentage would have viewed the artwork which was of a very high standard. The prize winners overall were given a gift from NASA Administrator Mr Charles Bolden!
