Everyone is invited for this lecture. Abstract of the lecture: The era of modern astronomy and space exploration has brought into scrutiny our place in the universe as a species and civilization. Are worlds like ours common? Is life common? What does it take for it to start? Is it easy to occur? What are its forerunners? What conditions would it need? And what about technological civilizations? Are there thousands of those out there? Is it scientifically arrogant to think that civilization on a small rock around a commonly found type of star could be special, or unique? Or is it probable? And what are the consequences, either way? We will take a stock of these questions, and see where it potentially leads us. About the speaker: Yogesh Kane is an energetic and enthusiastic member of JVP. He works in technology - specifically in telecom and fintech areas. He is an avid reader, and considers physics, astronomy, science and history of science among his broad interests. He likes teaching; and has been conducting lectures on topics related to science and learning science for school students. |
