Report on the Results:  The space week at Al Sahwa was a great success. The students were well motivated to help produce the Shuttle and International space station in the gym. The younger students who helped to build it, had a real sense of ownership of the Shuttle and were so excited to get inside it. They were only allowed inside once the media had taken the pictures so we could ensure it was still in good order for the media. The play produced about the moon landing was well received by the audience and "Neil Armstrong" made his famous speech "one small step for man one giant step for mankind". The grade 5's all produced some excellent satellites that were strung up in various places around the school. One of the highlights was after the students had done the plotting of the various constellations in mathematics, it generated such an interest that they went out of the city to where it was dark enough to see the stars and went looking for the constellations they had plotted. Some other great work was done in the Science department with the bottle rockets reaching about 50-80m when launched. One egg capsule was so well done the capsule took at least 7sec to land and landed so gently that nothing had moved inside the capsule. The Islamic department were great in producing some fantastic posters about how the Quoran is linked to the universe and space. In the grade 11 classes much work was done on the microgravity flights and linking them to parabolas and quadratic graphs. Space week was a truly great learning experience for all the students in grade 5, 7 and 11.
