Report on the Results:  “There is no rain in Mars!” The World Space Week was successfully celebrated in our Stars’ Model Matriculation School, Kumarapuram, Tiruchendur. The week commenced on 4th of October with an awareness programme for the entire school. The students prepared models of various satellites and other space objects and displayed them for others. On the penultimate day of this space week, ISRO Scientist Mr. Inger Sol imparted a vibrant seminar on the theme of this year’s space week celebrations, “Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth”. Speaking about the significance of this theme, Mr. Inger Sol told the students that through chemical reactions the scientists intend to extract water from the surface of Mars. Though there is no oxygen in Mars, he said, man can breathe with the oxygen that is available in H2O. When Mr. Inger Sol said that there is no rain in Mars one of the students enquired about the source of water in the absence of rain. To this the senior Scientist said that there might have been rivers flowing in the past which have now disappeared. The dampness from that water body still remains in the ground and one has to extract it from the soil. Later the students clarified many of their doubts. They asked various questions like, whether there are mountains in Mars, whether plants can grow there without rain, whether there is gravitational force etc. Mr. Inger Sol admired the knowledge of students and expressed his happiness for the students had responded correctly to all his questions and also raised relevant questions to him. At the end of the seminar, students felt proud in getting the autograph of Mr. Inger Sol and cherished the moment.
