Event Name:  Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth
Event Description:  Planned a two events, space science and technology for socio-economic development on october 4 and Mars4U Conference on October 7, involving over 70 Junior High School forms 1-3 students of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Basic School. The former comprised of two lectures, one on radiation application in space activities by a Ghanain nuclear scientist Simon Adu and the other on satellite applications by a Ghanain Mechanical Engineer Michael Afful who is SGAC NPoC for Ghana. Both lectures highlighted the intersecttion between space technology and nuclear science and its benefits as they relate to future Mars mission. The latter event on October 7 was a conference that AFRICSIS director Hubert Foy coordinated and linked the students to a live skype conference with the staff of The students asked numerous questions about life on Mars and how the red planet differs from or is similar to Earth.

Report on the Results:  At the end of the two day event, the students remarked that theey appreciated information about the importance of an emerging Ghana Space Program in the economic and social development of their nation. Many students expressed interest to study maths, science and engineering in order to become part of the future space industry in Ghana. One student expressed his excitement to one day go to Mars and stay for two years away from Earth.
