Report on the Results:  REGIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE PATAN Gujarat Council On Science and Technology Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Gujarat Report on the World Space Week Celebration (4th to 10th October 2022) Introduction: World Space Week is celebrated every year from October 4 to 10 in nearly 100 countries across the globe. World Space Week is the largest space event to celebrate the benefits of science and technology to human society. It is being celebrated since 1999. There are many benefits the human race receives from space and thus it is important to educate everyone about them. Organizations such as space agencies, science centres, schools, planetarium, museums, and astronomy clubs coordinate space outreach events in various parts of the world. The 2022 World Space Week theme, “Space and Sustainability” allows World Space Week to address sustainability from two angles: (1) how space benefits society and contributes to sustainable development on Earth and (2) what are the challenges ahead of us to keep space activities and the space environment safe and sustainable. About Regional Science Centre (RSC) Patan: RSC Patan was inaugurated on 1st May 2022 on the occasion of Gujarat Staphna Diwas by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel in the gracious presence of Hon’ble Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Shri Jitubhai Vaghani, Hon’ble Minister of State Shri Jagdish Vishwakarma (Panchal), Shri Vijay Nehra, Secretary, DST, Govt of Gujarat, Shri Supreet Singh Gulati, Collector, Patan and many other dignitaries. RSC Patan is developed near Samalpati Village, Sihori Road, Opp. Sarswati Taluka Seva Sadan, Patan district. It is developed in an area of 10 acres with approximate cost of Rs. 80 Crores. RSC Patan has five state-of-the-art theme based galleries namely Dinosaur gallery, Human Science gallery, Hydroponics gallery, Optics gallery and Nobel Prize – Chemistry gallery. RSC Patan is the centre for all scientific activities in region of North Gujarat. Objectives of the program: 1) To bring awareness to students, teachers and general public about the research, findings and achievements of space technology. 2) To inspire and motivate the young students with lots of educational and science outreach activities during the space week celebration to prepare the future workforce. 3) To showcase the on-going space programs and space activities to the general public and foster international cooperation in space outreach and education. Program Description: World Space Week celebration has been planned at the Regional Science Centre Patan from 4th to 10th October 2022, between 10:00 am to 07.00 pm. As a part of public engagement of space science and technology, a series of activities, popular lectures, expert talk and scientific shows for students, teachers and common people were organized. With the support of GUJCOST Gandhinagar, a special program was organized on 8th October 2022 involving experts from SAC ISRO, Ahmedabad. Mr. Nilesh Makwana (Expert, Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad) and Ms. Richa Srivastava (Member Secretary, World Space Week Committee 2022, Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad) gave an expert talk on Indian Space Program and harnessing technology for society, science and security.
