Event Name:  The challenge of MH370 flight path reconstruction and the future of space-based aircraft tracking
Event Description:  The loss of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 in March and the subsequent analysis by Inmarsat engineers of data transmitted automatically to the company’s satellites has been of significant interest to the both the aviation and the space communities. Critical issues related to the tracking of intercontinental aircraft flights have been identified and are currently being addressed by the aerospace sector worldwide. In response to this, Inmarsat has proposed a number of new capabilities such as a free global airline tracking service, enhanced position reporting and a ‘black box in the cloud’ system. This ‘breakfast briefing’ will deliver two technical presentations for aviation and space professionals, providing deeper insights into the systems used to track MH370, the analysis techniques deployed, and potential development pathways for enhanced future aircraft tracking using space assets as well as offering networking opportunities beforehand.
