Event Name: | Space and Astronomy Talks – SAT |
Event Description: | ‘Space and Astronomy Talks – SAT’: Join us on off-beat discussions on astronomy and space sciences from guests around the world and get to know the latest in the field. The sessions will be conducted through Google Hangouts or Skype. Details will be updated in this corner and our official social media accounts frequently. There are NO registrations required to join the online sessions. Organise an Event: We recommend our associated schools to plan WSW-themed ‘Global Navigation Satellite Systems’ activities in during the month of October, and submit a report online at the SPACE website which will be then compiled bearing the school’s name and sent to the World Space Week team at the UN. To see the list of suggested activities by SPACE and to know more about them, see Organise an Event. SPACE encourages everyone to celebrate WSW by conducting astronomy events based on this idea. To participate we request our associated schools to register their event(s) on our website. SPACE will register all such events on the WSW website. All registered participants will be given a certificate. About WSW World Space Week (WSW), the largest annual space event with 1,400 events in more than 80 countries during this week. It is an exciting international astronomical event organized by the United Nations General Assembly from 4-10 October every year. The objective of the WSW is to “celebrate each year at the international level, the contributions of space science and technology for the betterment of the human condition”. These dates commemorate two historic events: 4 October, 1957 marks the launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1. 10 October, 1967 marks the signing of the Treaty on Principles governing the activities of states in the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space. While the WSW lasts from 4 to 10, SPACE encourages everybody to celebrate it all though the month of October as the actual WSW coincides with school holidays in Delhi and WSW accepts events submissions all through October. |
