Event Description:  Chella Quint previews extracts from her new show based on her zine of the same name, leading to a performance in the Off the Shelf festival at the end of the month. Description below. Previews: 11 October: Nottingham Zine Fest, Sneinton House, NOttingham, 12 pm 17 October: Women in Comedy Festival, The King’s Arms, Salford, 10:30 pm 22 October: Story Forge, The Red Deer, Sheffield 8 pm Performance: 28 October: Off the Shelf Festival, The Leadmill, Sheffield, 8 pm Brooklynite turned adopted local Chella Quint gets down and nerdy about outer space in an out of this world night of comedy, space news and all the flying saucers you can eat. Join comedian, comedy writer, and amateur astronomer Chella Quint for an evening of laughs from a true space fan. In this show, current events are communicated through letters, memos and postcards sent and received, using humour, pathos and a more than liberal sprinkling of puns. Audience members are encouraged to participate in pre-show activities including space-food tasting, experiments and quizzes. Later, join the Outer Space Fan Club, receive your official fanzine and badge, and write space letters using prompts created by local astronomers. Who knows – there may even be some replies! This show has been supported by grants from Off the Shelf and from the Institute of Physics. “Her love letters between the planets were both funny and endearing, and her characterisation of Earth as the messy hoarder in the shared house of the solar system was excellent. Quint is a clever comic.” - Broadway Baby “It’s punny in all the right ways and cleverly written. And if you indeed are a space enthusiast, you’ll find the letters particularly charming as they all hint at relevant news stories and events—from Pluto’s demotion to Global Warming.” - Foggy Bottom Press For updates, follow #ijustneedspace and follow @chellaquint on Twitter. This show has been peer reviewed by astronomers. Chella talks about the zine on this episode of the Science Brainwaves radio show http://www.mixcloud.com/sciencebrainwaves/09032014-science-brainwaves-space-part-1/

Report on the Results:  The first preview was lovely! Great feedback and the audience of mostly university art students left debating Pluto's planethood and declaring themselves fans of space. Can't wait to do it again!
