Event Description: | Public talk I : "Life and death in the Universe" Speaker : Dr. Dibyendu Nandi Schedule : 7 October 2015 at 6:30 p.m. IST ===================================================================================== Dr. Dibyendu Nandi is an Indian scientist acclaimed for his studies related to Solar Magnetic Cycle. He is associated with MSU, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and IISER, Kolkata where he carried most of his research work. He was the 2012 recipient of the prestigious Karen Harvey Prize of the American Astronomical Society. We are listening." Speaker : Dr. Rajesh K. Nayak Schedule : 7 October 2015 at 7:30 p.m. IST ===================================================================================== Dr. Rajesh Kumble Nayak works in the area of gravitational wave data analysis, general theory of relativity and relativistic astrophysics. He also enjoys working in mathematical and computational physics. He is a member of the LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) Scientific Collaboration and IndIGO (Indian Initiative in Gravitational-wave Observations) consortium. Report on the Results: | The public talks aroused great response from the audience who enjoyed varied manifestations of the Cosmos! Note, that the audience comprised mainly of Undergraduate students pursuing basic science courses and most of them didn't have any astronomy course and their bright, lit-up faces beamed their excitement and joy after maiden rendezvous with our Universe! The audience reciprocated with myriad queries targeted at the speakers! |
